Temperature monitoring of gearboxes

Unstad has, in collaboration with a strategic third-party supplier, developed a complete system for wireless monitoring and logging of gearbox oil temperature. The solution combines customized hardware and software to provide real-time data, automatic logging, and cloud-based access to operational and maintenance information.

The system consists of wireless temperature sensors installed in gearboxes via tailored adapters. The sensors communicate with an onboard logging unit that collects and makes temperature data available in real time. The data can be viewed locally and shared via a cloud platform, giving both maintenance personnel and technical resources easy access to historical data, trends, and relevant alarms.

The solution was developed with a strong focus on robustness and compliance with relevant railway standards for fire safety, electronics, and RAMS, as well as shock and vibration requirements. The project demonstrates how Unstad delivers practical, implementable solutions for condition-based maintenance and performance optimization in rolling stock.
