Unstad appreciates opening our doors to new talent, even for a short stay. Last week, we hosted Brage for a one-week school placement. During his time with us, Brage got hands-on experience both in management and practical work, contributing directly to our team.
Brage shares his own reflections on his week at Unstad:
I have been working at Unstad for about a week for a school task. My impression while there was a rather good one, with the employees being helpful with them helping me figure out what I was supposed to do and them answering all questions I had if I was confused or curious about my work or theirs.
While there I mostly worked as a management employee, keeping track of equipment. But everyday I was also allowed to do practical work, where I was helping to make train wheels. This was a nice change from being trapped in an office all day, as it allowed me to another location rather than just staying seated the entire time and to do practical work which was the highlight of the week.
While here I worked on train wheels, which trained me to do certain task. These tasks included measuring the wheel parts, cleaning off any unnecessary coating and assembling the parts together. This is of course a heavily simplified version as there were certain techniques and etiquettes I was expected to use as I learned. I also got to use a 3D printer and got to see how it worked
The management part had me using graph tables to list down and keep track of certain things. The first one I did was about the serial numbers of IT-equipment, think computers and routers. So, I went to each employee’s desk to be certain that they had the correct serial number or sometimes just to be certain they had one at all. The second part of management was to keep track of the additional equipment the office had, and to organize them however I saw fit in the end.
That’s all I wanted to say, thank you Unstad for having me.
