Our modular bistro – tomorrow's onboard serving solution, delivered today

Our headline at InnoTrans 2026 is the modular bistro, and it deserves the spotlight. The Unstad Modular Bistro is a compact and flexible onboard serving concept, designed and developed in Norway for modern rail travel. The idea is simple but powerful: combine functionality, comfort and quality in a solution that adapts seamlessly to different fleets, services and passenger needs.

Its strength lies in the modularity. The bistro is built from interchangeable modules for refrigeration, coffee, waste, storage and flexible use, so it can be tailored to your specific project. In a limited space it can bring together coffee, chilled drinks, snacks, sandwiches, storage and waste handling – functions that can be combined to suit the service pattern, the available space and the desired service level. A Corian worktop and aluminium frame give it a robust construction, while custom colours, foils and nature-inspired materials let it blend into the train interior and follow the operator's visual identity.

This is also where one of the most interesting opportunities lies: adding onboard service to trains that currently lack it, without rebuilding the carriage into a traditional bistro car. A small area can make a big difference. By using limited space more intelligently, it's possible to move from no service at all to a more complete journey and increased passenger satisfaction. The bistro is compact and ergonomic for efficient operation, easy to install and adapt, and it can be fitted within the train's planned maintenance windows – keeping costs down and making implementation smooth.

And most importantly: it's built in accordance with EN 45545-2 for onboard use. Half the show has coffee shops – but only a handful are actually certified for the train. That's where we come in. We handle the entire chain in-house, from functional specification and industrial design to mechanics, electrics, installation, verification and documentation.
